For one such commercial property in Rhiwbina Cardiff, their store was lit by the very popular fluorescent lights, lighting both their store and their stock that they had for sale. But with the Fluorescent lighting looking tired, and costing more to run and maintain, Serenade gifts were looking for a more modern and cost-effective light.

After getting in touch with us, we supplied and installed LED lighting throughout the store, making it more modern, cleaner and easier to maintain but more importantly more energy efficient.

So, why are commercial properties making the switch from fluorescent to LED lights?

Whilst fluorescent lights are the most popular form of commercial lighting – much due to the great savings in terms of energy costs and life span compared to traditional incandescent lights – it isn’t as energy-efficient compared to LED.

LEDs are the most modern compared to fluorescent they are significantly smaller, don’t use glass to house the filaments and as they emit very little heat, they are safe to come in contact with – reducing the risk of burning yourself. Alongside increasing health and safety, they are also more energy-efficient than fluorescent lighting.

Although the price of LED’s has come down, they are still a little bit more expensive compared to fluorescent with LED’s costs averaging £15 per bulb compared to £5 per fluorescent bulb.

But alongside being safer than fluorescent bulbs, LEDs are:

• More energy efficient – using approximately 8 Watts compared to fluorescent lights using 14Watts
• Last longer – up to 50,000 hours compared to fluorescents lasting 9,000 hours
• Cost less to run – £32 for 50,000 hours compared to £48 for 50,000 hours.
